Cannes Lions 2024: And the winners are… early

For years and years, Cannes Lions has protected the tradition of celebrating the Silver and Bronze Lions winners not necessarily on stage, but on screen during the evening award ceremonies. While the Gold and Grand Prix medalists strut their way to the podium, the second and third place winners are given a brief celebratory salute by way of a slide that simply lists the winners from each country.

But, in a surprise twist for 2024, the organizers are trying something new. Starting today, the fest will announce the Silver and Bronze winners in the Palais each afternoon, so that each and every winner gets to bask in the limelight.

Starting with Health & Wellness – a category that celebrates creativity for personal wellbeing – Cannes Lions awarded three Canadian agencies with trophies on Monday. Edelman Toronto, alongside partner shop Salutem in New York, were given a Silver for “Allegra Airways”; while Klick Health picked up a Bronze for Cafe Joyeux’ “47” campaign, as did Bensimon Byrne for White Ribbon’s “Short Life Stories.”

Over in Outdoor, Rethink was the sole Canadian Silver and Bronze winner (which, having landed six times on the shortlist, is not surprising). The Silver went to “Coors Lights Out” and the Bronze to Heinz Ketchup’s “Smack for Heinz.”

Tonight, at 9pm CEST / 3pm EST, the Gold and Grand Prix winners will be revealed at a second show in Cannes. Agencies that still have a shot at Gold include Cossette, Edelman, Lg2, No Fixed Address, Rethink, Spy Films and Tank Worldwide. In the meantime, here’s the work that’s won so far.
