Derek Cairns, EVP of Business Leadership at Sellout
Sellout adds to its senior leadership
Derek Cairns is taking on the role of EVP of business leadership at Sellout, the new boutique omnichannel shopper agency launched by a trio of former Mosaic staffers, Natalie Zaturski, Amy Creyer and Sheldon Power.
Cairns brings 20-plus years of experience across CPG brand marketing, adtech sales and agency management to his new role at Sellout. He co-led the enterprise business development function at Flipp, a North American retail technology company and grocery app.
Prior to this, Cairns was GM and partner of Stagwell Group’s 6Degrees, where he co-owned and led Canada’s largest shopper marketing agency and a team of 80-plus.
He has expertise in digital, ecommerce, shopper marketing, creative, media buying and experiential marketing. He worked on a client roster that included Coca-Cola, Tim Hortons, Labatt, Kellogg, Canopy Growth, Hershey, Colgate, Loblaws, and Mondelez.
Prior to joining 6Degrees as group account director, Cairns served as group marketing manager for Colgate-Palmolive in Toronto.
Superfantastic adds an ACD
Toronto brand design and XM Studio Superfantastic has added Julie MacKinnon as associate creative director of design.
MacKinnon brings more than 10 years of experience to the team, having spent her career at some of Canada’s most well-known design studios, including Underline, Cossette and Whitman Emorson.
Founded in 2021 by Mark Neil Balson and Daniel Josef Okorn, Superfantastic welcomed Kristin Germain-O’Donnell as partner and managing director in January 2024.
The studio has collaborated with numerous design and art-focused brands including Monos Travel, The Bentway and Avenue Road. It supported the rebrand of Simplii Financial and experiential events for Coast Capital Savings and Ledn.
M5 adds a senior account director
Jacquie Stoyek is M5’s senior account director.
She was recently senior account director with Halifax shop Verb, where her core responsibilities included being client lead for marketing and website development projects, as well as owning relationship development and project management for partners such as Ennismore, Davidson Hospitality, Air North, Yukon’s Airline, and Voyages Indigenous Tourism.
Prior to this, she was account director at Arrivals + Departures, and was relationship and project lead for brands including Tourism Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia Community.
