2024 Epica Awards reveals 75 shortlist nods for Canadian agencies

Canadian agencies earned 75 nominations in the 2024 Epica Awards shortlist, with the winners to be announced during an online show on Dec. 12.

Voted on by journalists working in the global advertising and marketing trade press, including strategy, the Epica Awards are the only marketing creative prize judged by the press. Its jury includes more than 200 chief editors and senior reporters from more than 60 countries. Agencies, design studios, production houses, advertisers and digital marketers all compete for the honours.

The highest number of entries overall this year came from Germany (307), followed by Canada (285) and the U.K. (133). In terms of networks, Publicis, VML and McCann were particularly well
represented. There are 562 shortlisted works, with Germany leading the way, followed by Canada in second, according to the organizers.

Overall, 15 Canadian agencies saw their campaigns shortlisted in this year’s Epica Awards. Of those, Rethink led the way with 16 nominations for its work with Molson Coors, Kraft Heinz, Uber Eats and Epidemic Sound.

Just behind Rethink was Leo Burnett Toronto, with 11 shortlist nominations for work with Proctor & Gamble, General Motors of Canada, Yum! Brands, Metrolinx, Daily Bread Food Bank and Melanin Games.

Zulu Alpha Kilo picked up nine nominations of its own for its work with Campbell Company of Canada, Global Action on Gun Violence, Gas Leaks, Street Lab, Environmental Leadership Canada and Zulu Alpha Kilo.

The remaining Canadian agencies shortlisted are Publicis Toronto (eight), Courage (seven), Dentsu Creative (seven), FCB (four), McCann (four), Lg2 (three), Angry Butterfly (one), DonerNorth and Veritas (one), King Ursa (one), The Local Collective (one), No Fixed Address (one) and Sid Lee (one).

Shortlisted entries will next be evaluated by the awards’ jury, with voting running from Nov. 22 to Dec. 1. An in-person Grand Prix jury session will be held in Brussels. A special online ceremony on December 7 will screen the Gold and Grand Prix winners, with Silver and Bronze winners unveiled on the Epica Awards’ website the following day, on Dec. 8.

These finalists go through to the next round of the jury, which takes place online from Nov. 25 to Dec. 1. An in-person Grand Prix jury session will take place in Paris. Gold and Grand Prix winners will be screened during a special online ceremony on Dec. 12, with Silver and Bronze winners unveiled on the Epica Awards website the next day, Dec. 13.
