Kenvue, Mondelez and Nestlé were among the big winners at BrandSpark International’s 22nd Best New Product Awards, which also revealed research findings around heightened sensitivity when it comes to price.
The consumer-voted awards are informed by 12,000 Canadian participants in a nationwide survey, spanning 118 CPG categories.
Kenvue snagged 10 awards overall for its brands including Aveeno, which secured six awards for its Baby Daily Healthy Start Newborn Balm and Kids 2-in-1 Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner (pictured). Other Kenvue wins included Neutrogena Kids Sunscreen Stick SPF 50+, Zarbee’s Baby + Children Soothing Chest Rub, Zarbee’s Children’s Daily Multivitamin Chewables + Immune, and Band-Aid Brand Pro Heal Adhesive.
Six-time winner, Mondelez, meanwhile, snagged wins for Chips Ahoy! Caramilk; Ritz Baked Chips Sour Cream & Onion Chips; Sour Patch Kids Blue Raspberry, among others. Nestlé was also awarded for its Drumstick Tubs Ice Cream Tub, Nescafe Iced Instant Coffee and KitKat bar ice cream bars.
BrandSpark insights reveal that during periods of accelerated inflation, 75% of consumers continue to shop with heightened sensitivity to price. However, despite these pressures, 55% of Canadian shoppers say they will pay more for a new product if they believe it will be better than their current option.
Across food, personal care, beauty, household care, and health, 40% of shoppers report they “regularly look for innovation” when shopping, which bodes well for brands considering 90% of brand marketers reported launching new products in 2024. The primary trends driving recent innovations include superior value, better performance or experience, convenience, enhanced health benefits, and sustainability, according to BrandSpark.
Lastly, 50% of BrandSpark survey respondents say they believe brands are constantly improving food and beverage products, while 60% agree that they’re consistently improving personal care, beauty, and household care products.
