The BC Securities Commission (BCSC) is warning about AI deep fakes and schemers by parodying all-star charity singalongs like “We Are The World” and “Do They Know It’s Christmas?”
The uncensored hero for ““We’re Not All F**ked” video features a group of average investors belting their way through disturbing encounters with creepy deep fake accountants, glitchy catfish dating scammers and classic AI tropes like janky faces and double rows of teeth.
The regulatory agency, which creates and enforces rules to keep the investment marketplace fair and honest, tells strategy the populace is worried about AI right now, with insights revealing that 71% of British Columbians report being more worried than ever about falling victim to AI investment fraud. Pamela McDonald, director of communication and education at the BCSC, says the organization thought it was important to “let investors know that we understand how they’re feeling and that we’re here to help.”
Scot Keith, CEO and founder of agency partner One Twenty Three West, tells strategy the campaign had to “go to the edge” to get noticed. “We need people to talk about the dangers of AI and crypto fraud, says Keith, who adds that BCSC was on board with pushing the envelope. “We used the F word on purpose. The target group consumes media on the streaming services that story tells this way. In this case, we’re having fun with it. But there’s a purpose. We don’t want to offend people.”
In addition to the hero music video, video cutdowns, bespoke landing page and static social assets, the campaign also features a full-length EP with more songs that provide more education about different kinds of AI scams and how to avoid them.
The full campaign is live this week across broadcast TV, radio, connected TV and digital channels.
Last year, BCSC took on crypto schemers, copying the look and feel of TikTok influencer content by talking to the target where they liked being talked to.
