Six Canadians selected as Cannes Lions announces shortlist jury

The Cannes Lions announced its 2025 shortlist jury lineup on Thursday with six Canadians selected to the group in charge of assessing entries for this year’s International Festival of Creativity.

In total, 79 industry experts were named to the shortlist jury, a selection representing the industry’s leading worldwide talent across disciplines. The markets of Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iceland and Mongolia are represented on the shortlist jury for the first time in 2025.

This year’s shortlisting Canadians are:

Audio & Radio: Athina Afton Lalljee, creative director, McCann
Film: Alexis Bronstorph, CCO, No Fixed Address
Outdoor: Anne-Claude Chénier, CCO, Cossette East
Direct: Andrea Cook, CEO, Jam CRM
Media: Brooke Leland, president, Mekanism Media
Health and Wellness: Curtis Westman, VP, associate creative director at AREA 23, an IPG Health Company

The shortlist jury conducts the first round of judging individually, before on-site judging at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. Jurors score entries on a scale of one to nine for the round of voting that produces a percentage of top-ranking work that makes the shortlist cut.

On the first day of on-site judging, juries are given an opportunity to review the shortlist before it’s made public. Roughly 10% of entries tend to make it through to the shortlist stage.

“All our Jurors play a crucial role in shaping the work awarded at Cannes Lions,” Lions CEO Simon Cook said in a statement. “This year, we are seeing an unprecedented level of global engagement from deserving talent, with more markets, more voices, and more perspectives coming together to recognize the global benchmark.”

In February, Edelman’s global CCO Judy John was the lone Canadian named as a leader for the 2025 juries for the International Festival of Creativity, scheduled for June 16 to 20 in Cannes, France.
