Annex Sodas expands its merchandizing options with new look

Craft beer and soda company Annex has unveiled its new look.

The packaging update, developed by Calgary design agency Public Eye Studio, was informed by feedback from customers and distributors.

“This refresh isn’t just cosmetic, it’s a direct result of conversations with our community and how people are consuming non-alc beverages,” says Erica O’Gorman, co-founder of Calgary-based Annex Sodas. “The design brings a slightly more grown-up feel to the product, while remaining youthful through fun imagery, content and colours.”

The new packaging is designed to boost shelf presence and strengthen brand identity. Each four-pack now comes in recyclable boxes, eliminating plastic carriers. The format also keeps cans cleaner and better protected, O’Gorman says.

“The cans look great on their own, with each soda’s individual icon, but they can also be sold on shelves in four-pack boxes,” she says. “With the way the icons are pictured on the box, they can be paired next to each other to make the full picture of the flavour.”

O’Gorman says it’s Annex Sodas’ first visual refresh since the company was founded in 2016. With its 10-year anniversary approaching, she says, the timing felt right for a change.

The new design includes SKUs such as Root Beer, Craft Cola, Orange Soda, Ginger Beer and Saskatoon Lemonade.

Annex Sodas launched the rebrand through its owned social channels and newsletter, and made appearances at several community events and conferences, including SocialWest, the XX Summit and Calgary Stampede gatherings. It also shared the new cans with local influencers and plans to ship boxes to community ambassadors.
