
It’s not just chocolate and confectionery brands leaning into the spooky season: Pet Valu is too.
From October 3 to 5, the pet food, supplies and accessories retailer is hosting in-store “Nighttime Demo Days,” where pet lovers can discover how reflective gear and light-up accessories help keep pets safe during evening outings like walks and trick or treating.
“If we look outside of the purchase, the journey starts earlier, and this is an opportunity for us,” says Idan Driman, Pet Valu’s VP of marketing. “We don’t just meet devoted pet lovers, our customers, when they are looking to buy the product. We want to be there earlier, when they start looking for guidance and inspiration.”
Pet Valu’s staff will also share calming solutions for Halloween stressors like frequent doorbell rings and costumes and goodies for animal trick-or-treaters.

As Driman explains, while Halloween is exciting, it can also be chaotic, so Pet Valu offers a variety of products, such as reflective collars and collar lights and retractable and rechargeable LEDs to keep pets safe.
To curb Halloween night anxiety, Pet Valu also offers a range of stress reducers such as calming treats, weighted blankets and vests.
A seasonal digital guide includes dedicated Halloween content with expert picks, safety tips and product inspiration.
The selection ranges from multi-piece and hooded costumes for pets who are experienced and comfortable wearing apparel, to light capes and headpieces for pets who are new to dressing up.
“We leverage our 360 marketing channels to meet and support our devoted pet lovers as they are getting ready to celebrate with their pets,” Driman says.
Pet Valu is also running a Halloween-themed Instagram contest to drive engagement.
Driman tells strategy that it is teaming up with Treat Accessibly, a grassroots effort to make trick-or-treating accessible across Canada, for a second year. Treat Accessibly lawn signs for houses friendly to people with disabilities are available for pick up at Pet Valu stores.
