The Keg is capturing the excitement of holiday get-togethers. The Canadian steakhouse chain’s latest spot, by creative partner Juliet, shows the joy and connectivity of seasonal meet-ups, set to the strains of an up-tempo rock version of “Silent Night,” with a call out to purchase Keg gift card online or on-premise.
Chantal Chiarelli, The Keg’s VP of marketing, says that every year it produces a creative about bringing guests together around food and elevated hospitality. “The sound of people’s celebrations that fills our restaurants coast to coast at this special time of year is our favourite holiday soundtrack,” Chiarelli says. “And of course, to gift an experience like this, we extend an invitation to give joy through the magic of Keg gift cards.”
The spot ties back to the restaurant’s longstanding brand platform of “See You Tonight.”
Juliet brand director Olivia Howlett tells strategy The Keg’s strength lies in capturing real moments of connection rather than leaning too far into seasonal tropes. “The Keg has always been the backdrop for good times, and the holidays only make that sentiment more resonant,” Howlett says.
According to Howlett, The Keg wanted the focus to be on the moments people experience at restaurant over the holidays. “Whether it’s a lively celebration with friends to celebrate the holidays, or a simple Tuesday night dinner in December, The Keg is the perfect setting. In that way, it ties directly back to our brand platform, by putting moments of connection at the centre.”
The campaign is being amplified through broadcast and connected TV, OLV, social, display, OOH and demand gen ads, “essentially a Google-based display ad.” Mekanism (previously Jungle Media) is behind the buy again. Howlett adds that last year it ran TV, OLV, social and display so media tactics remained largely consistent this year because they worked, though timing and creative rotations were refined based on last year’s performance.
This summer, Fairfax Financial acquired all of the issued and outstanding units of Keg Royalties, other than those already owned by the holdco.
Last holiday season, a Keg $50 redeemable gift card was part of a Coors Light scannable gift bow promotion.
