People of Colour in Advertising and Marketing (POCAM) has opened the fifth edition of its Visible and Vocal survey for responses.
The annual survey aims to capture the experiences of BIPOC professionals in Canadian advertising and marketing in their own words, and also help create a roadmap towards making the industry more diverse and inclusive.
The survey is open to BIPOC working in Canada’s advertising and marketing industry. All responses are kept anonymous and confidential, with data analyzed in aggregate to ensure that identities remain anonymous. Non-BIPOC allies are also being asked to share the survey within their networks to support the cause.
The last edition of the survey found that BIPOC professionals in Canada’s advertising and marketing industry had a more negative perception of how inclusive and diverse their workplaces were compared to 2022.
According to the 2024-released study, 14% of BIPOC workers believed race relations were good in Canada, down from the 18% in 2022. As well, 87% said that there was discrimination against Indigenous people, while 86% of respondents agreed that anti-Asian discrimination exists in Canada, with the same percentage agreeing that there is discrimination against Black people as well.
