There was something fishy about this year’s 14th annual Billi Awards with three aquatic ads landing prizes.
In the campaign category, the gold went to Geoffrey B. Roche & Partners for its outdoor advertising for the Royal Ontario Museum.
The winning designs were ‘Suit,’ ‘Madonna,’ ‘Nintendo,’ ‘Bugs,’ ‘Mummy’ and ‘Bats.’ The art director was Geoffrey B. Roche and the copywriter was Jim Ranscombe.
Clorets
The silver prize went to J. Walter Thompson for its Clorets ads, ‘Man with fish tie,’ and ‘Woman with garlic necklace’ for Warner-Lambert Canada.
In the bronze slot in the campaign category was Vickers & Benson Advertising for its ‘Elvis,’ ‘Cigar’ and ‘Condom’ advertisements for the Santa Fe Beverage Company – Amstel.
In the horizontal category, top spot went to Harrod and Mirlin for its ‘Fish’ snorkelling ad for Evian Source de France. The art director on that was Grahame Arnould.
Taking silver was Harrod and Mirlin again for the Milk Bone Tooth Brush advertisement for Nabisco. Third was Cossette Communication Marketing for its McDonald’s Pizza ads.
The vertical category winner was Vickers & Benson for its ‘Condom’ ad for Amstel and the Santa Fe Beverage Company. Its art director was John Speakman and its copywriter Terry Bell.
Runner-up was J. Walter Thompson for its ‘Clorets Man with fish tie’ ad for Warner-Lambert Canada. Taking the Bronze was Dome Advertising B.C., for its ‘Put your nose here’ advertisement for the Vancouver Aquarium. Art director for that ad was Brian Johnston and copywriter was Charlie Mayrs.
The Billis are sponsored by Mediacom and were presented at a gala awards evening in Toronto Sept. 17.
