Mobile communications company
There is a new entrant in the mobile communications field.
Mobility Canada is a corporation set up to deliver mobile communications through its wireless service companies across Canada.
Mobility Canada had its official launch last week in Toronto at the annual Canadian Business Telecommunications Alliance conference.
Owners and shareholders
The owners and shareholders of the new corporation include BCE Mobile Communications, Edmonton Telephones Corporation, AGT Cellular, BC Tel, Newfoundland Telephone Company and Saskatchewan Telecommunications.
John McLennan, president of BCE Mobile Communications and Bell Mobility Cellular, says Mobility Canada was established to improve customer service and to build new products.
McLennan says Mobility Canada soon intends to apply to the Department of Communications for a national licence to provide personal cordless telephone service.
He says personal cordless telephones could be in the $300 range in future.
McLennan calls Mobility Canada a ‘really national service with a very local focus.’
No majority voting share
But he says no one member of the corporation has a majority voting share in the enterprise.
Steve Smith, vice-president and managing director of Mobility Canada and vice-president of CellNet Canada, says image advertising for the new corporation built around the ‘mobility banner’ will begin in three months or so.
Mobility Canada’s agency is Cossette Communication-Marketing.
