W5 starts season with a flourish

CTV Television Network’s flagship public affairs program, W5, with Eric Malling, is off to a flying start for the new season.

For the week of Sept. 14-20, it was the only public affairs program to place in the top 20 shows and did so in all demographic categories.

W5 drew 1.1 million viewers overall that week, good for the ninth most-watched slot among adult viewers aged 25-54, 11th position among adults 18-49, and 13th for viewers 2+.

For the same week, ctv had nine of the top 10 shows in both demographic categories of viewers 2+ and adults 18-49, and all top 10 shows for adults 25-54, according to A.C. Nielsen data presented by ctv.

ctv also fared well with the annual Canadian Country Music Awards aired live from Calgary on Sept. 20. The show placed seventh among viewers 2+, and 8th among adults 25-54.

In the just-completed 1991-92 season, ctv had the majority of the top programs for regular programming and for specials.

For adults 25-54, ctv had eight of the top 10 series, and 17 of the top 10 specials, according, again, to A.C. Nielsen data for weeks one to 39 presented by CTV.
