Ault consolidates with Scali

Ault Foods has consolidated all of its advertising business with one agency.

The $1 million Haagen Dazs ice cream and frozen novelties account has been moved to Scali McCabe Sloves, joining other Ault brands such as Black Diamond, Lactantia, Parlour and Sealtest.

Miller Myers Bruce DallaCosta of Toronto has had the Haagen Dazs business for about five years.

For the past few years, creative has come from BBDO New York and mmbd has primarily handled the French-language part of the assignment.

Roche gets the call

after a short review, Call-Net has chosen Geoffrey B. Roche & Partners of Toronto as its first agency.

The budget is more than $1 million for the first year.

A campaign to increase Call-Net’s profile breaks this week in the business press and next week in daily newspapers.

Other media plans have not been finalized.

Call-Net, a Toronto-based public company, is a telephone re-seller that is able to offer savings up to 40% to small and medium-sized businesses through its own equipment and long-term leases with Bell.

Royal project to Allard/SMW

the royal Bank has chosen its principal French-language agency Allard SMW to handle the Quebec portion of a spring campaign.

DDB Needham, Toronto, was recently awarded the English-language creative assignment.

Although Royal Bank looked at agencies outside of its usual roster for the creative project, the line-up remains unchanged: MacLaren:Lintas is the primary English-language agency and Geoffrey B. Roche & Partners of Toronto handles the community banking business.

Other agencies in the pool include Fieldstone of Calgary, FCB/Direct, MacLaren Direct and Allard Direct.

McCann gets TD assignment

mccann-erickson has been awarded an image advertising project by Toronto Dominion Bank following a review of four agencies.

No details of the project have been released because strategy, budget, timing and objectives are of competitive interest.

td has been dividing its personal financial business between its agencies Saatchi & Saatchi and Grey Advertising but because of the scope of the new venture decided to widen its options.

Gunnar Wilmot, agency president, says the nature of the project is on-going but distinct from the assignments of the other td agencies.

The result of a second review for td’s GreenLine and td Trust accounts is expected soon.

td has more than 850 branches nationwide.

Astro appoints Wolf

wolf Advertising now has the North American advertising account for Astro Dairy Products.

The Toronto agency was chosen for the Canadian assignment because two years ago, its Buffalo office successfully launched Astrodome yogurt for Astro’s u.s. licensee.

The advertising budget has not been finalized but the appointment signals Astro’s intention to step up its Canadian marketing activities.

Advertising had previously been handled in-house.

Toronto-based Astro makes an extensive range of premium yogurts, cottage cheese, cream cheese and sour cream.

Kaufman flies with Air Ontario

kaufman Advertising of Toronto has been picked to take over the Air Ontario advertising account following a review to replace Laser Communications, a Toronto firm which closed last September.

Leanne Perreault, Air Ontario marketing and customer relations manager, says she reviewed strategic rather than creative presentations from a shortlist of six agencies from Toronto and London, Ont.

She says Kaufman’s big strength was its media strategy and buying efficiency.

Strategy sessions are now underway for a spring campaign.

The London, Ont.-based airline is owned by Air Canada and operates as an Air Canada connector.

Air Ontario flies to 10 Ontario cities, as well as to Montreal, Winnipeg and five u.s. destinations.

Toronto office for Wells Rich Greene

wells rich Greene is planning to open a Toronto service office and is now awaiting government approval.

The New York-based agency has the North American itt Sheraton Corporation account which includes the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel & Towers and 19 other Canadian properties.

Boston-based itt Sheraton has nearly 430 owned, leased, managed and franchised properties in 61 countries.

Third network for Omnicom

omnicom Group has made an agreement to purchase New York-based agency tbwa International.

tbwa, with 14 offices in nine countries, becomes the third international network in the Omnicom stable.

tbwa will continue to be led by Bill Tragos, chairman, ceo and one of the four co-founders of the agency in 1970 in Paris. The New York office was established in 1977.

Omnicom, the fourth largest worldwide agency group, is parent to bbdo Worldwide and ddb Needham Worldwide and includes the Diversified Agency Services Group, Goodby Berlin & Silverstein, Altschiller Reitzfeld, and Omnicom u.k.

tbwa does not have a Canadian office but has a working relationship with bcp Strategy-Creativity in Montreal.

In Canada, Omnicom Group members are ddb Needham which owns Anderson Advertising and bbdo Canada which includes McKim Baker Lovick/bbdo, McKim Media Group, Comcore Group, Spectrum Group, The Case for Advertising in Toronto, vrh Advertising in Vancouver and 30% of Montreal affiliate, PNMD.
