Colgate-Palmolive Canada has axed 47 office staff in Toronto and another six in Montreal and Edmonton.

The cuts, which were made May 26, include the layoffs of 17 employees in the marketing and research and development departments, and a further 10 or more in finance.

Mike Krueger, vice-president of human resources at Colgate, says the company made the changes to enhance its competitiveness.

Colgate has almost 300 white collar employees in Canada, most of them in Toronto. DC
