Awards laud effective design

The group for Design in Business held its second annual Design Effectiveness Awards June 4 at the Toronto Marriott Eaton Centre Hotel.

The Financial Post Design Effectiveness Awards were created to recognize the effectiveness of design in helping businesses build markets and become more profitable.

– Spencer Francey Peters picked up the top award in the packaging category for its design of Valu Club, a line of supermarket house products. Client: Oshawa Foods.

– The Arnott Design Group walked away with the best product design award for its work on Statim Cassette Autoclave, a new medical device. Client: Sci-Can.

– International Design Group won in the retail environments category for its design of Allders Duty Free Store. Client: Allders International.

– Heather Cooper earned top honors in the corporate identity category. Client: Langdon Hall Country House Hotel.

– The Watt Group won for best business and commercial environments. Client: CTV Television Network.

– Jeff Layton & Associates won for best design work in the literature category for a project called Hook-a-Doc. Client: hmri.

– Ron Koudys Landscape Architect won for best design of leisure and public spaces. Client: 3M Canada.

– The Best of Show Award was won by Royal Housing System for Royal Building Systems. Client: The Royal Plastics Group.
