Doner Schur Peppler of Toronto has won the $10-million LensCrafters account after a review of three Toronto agencies.

The assignment had previously been handled in-house.

LensCrafters doubled its size earlier this year with its acquisition of the Eyemasters chain and now has 60 locations in Canada, with only Atlantic Canada left to locate in.

- Healthcare advertising agency Sudler & Hennessey has merged its Canadian operations with Gall Communications of Montreal to form Sudler & Hennessey/ Gall of Montreal and Toronto.

Jim Gall, founder of Gall Communications in 1980, has been named president of the new agency.

Sudler & Hennessey is the 50-year-old healthcare division of Young & Rubicam.

It operates 22 offices worldwide with more than US$300 million in annual billings.

- Freeman Rodgers Battaglia has bought the assets of Toronto nutritional marketing firm, Valerie Bell & Associates, and merged it with its Nutrition Directions division.

Company owner Valerie Bell has joined frb as vice-president and account director.

- Nancy Marino has been named director of a new Toronto firm called Second City Communications.

The division of The Second City, a 20-year-old Toronto-based improvisational comedy troupe and theatre, has been set up to do customized business theatre such as original material for conferences and award shows, live performances, videos, speech and scriptwriting and training workshops.

Marino, a 10-year veteran of the communications business, spent seven years with Communique as director of client services and a year with The Incentive Design Group as vice-president communications before setting up her own business last year.

- Remtulla + Associates of Toronto has been awarded the international branding assignment for Voltaren Ophtha, a non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory eye medicine, by CIBA Vision AG of Zurich.

This past July, Remtulla was hired to handle the ophthalmic line of products from CIBA Vision, Canada.

- McKim Baker Lovick/BBDO Vancouver has won the advertising contract for Benndorf Verster, a Vancouver-based office equipment dealer with annual sales exceeding $42 million.

- Jaguar Canada has aligned its advertising assignment with that of its u.s. sister company, Jaguar, as a cost-saving measure.

After 20 years with Kelley Advertising, the $1-million-plus account has moved to Ogilvy & Mather. Both are Toronto agencies.

The u.s. business has been with O&M New York since early last year.

Jaguar Cars of Coventry, England is the parent of the two North American operations.

- Tom Peacock has been elected president of the Western Chapter of the National Advertising Benevolent Society (NABS West) for a one-year term.

Peacock, of Peacock Communications, is a 35-year veteran of broadcasting and a co-founder of NABS West.

- Francois Morin, consultant with Massy-Forget Communications of Montreal, has been named president of the Marketing Association of Montreal for the 1993-94 term.

- Ross Roy Group, Kmart’s agency-of-record in the u.s. and Canada, is now also the retailer’s agency in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Mexico.

Ross Roy has opened offices in Prague and Mexico City.

- Deborah Folka has opened a new Vancouver company called DLF Communications, offering communications, public relations and marketing services.

Folka, a 16-year veteran of the industry, was most recently director of corporate affairs for Wesbild Properties.

She has also worked as director of communications for various private and public sector organizations.

- Enterprise Advertising of Toronto has been assigned more business by Rogers Cablesystems.

The agency was chosen from a short-list of three to handle image advertising for the cable tv provider which has 14 cable systems serving more than 1.85 million customers in b.c., Alberta, and Ontario.

The account had previously been handled in-house.

In the past, Enterprise has worked on projects for Rogers’ National Cable Network and Homes Plus real estate channel.

- Adelaide Direct has been merged into Day Directory Advertising, which is owned by Day Advertising Group, Toronto.

Day Directory specializes in Yellow Pages advertising.

- The fundamental principles of copyright law are explained in everyday language in a recently released book called Canadian Copyright Law, written by Lesley Ellen Harris, lawyer, consultant and former senior copyright officer for Communications Canada.

Harris is also an aspiring screenwriter and a volunteer with Artists Legal Aid Service in Ottawa for the past two years.
