Kiosk for car data

A London, Ont. company has developed an automated kiosk that supplies up-to-the-minute data on all the new cars available in Canada.

Since forming three years ago, AutoData Marketing Systems has specialized in the collection of automobile data for sale on computer disk to the car-leasing industry.

This month, the company unveiled the new kiosk, Auto Shopper, which puts similar information at the fingertips of consumers.

The information includes car specifications, prices and updates on option promotions.

AutoData plans to install the high-tech information well in selected car dealerships, which will pay a fee for the privilege of being able to offer the service on a semi-exclusive basis to their customers.

So far, only three Toronto-area gm dealers have signed on, but AutoData hopes to sell the service to a cross-section of automakers across the country.

Greg Perrier, president of AutoData, says the kiosk has the potential to revolutionize the car-buying process because it enables consumers, upon visiting a single showroom with Auto Shopper, to learn everything they need to know about the car models that interest them – without visiting the respective manufacturers’ showrooms.
