Friskies PetCare Products, the pet food arm of Nestle Canada, has launched a nation-wide sampling program for its Dr. Ballard brand dog food.

This month and next, the Toronto-based company will distribute 1.7 million ‘Best Care Sampler Packs’ to households from Alberta to Atlantic Canada.

The sampling campaign is being launched in conjunction with a fundraising drive for humane societies across the country.

The fundraising program was launched on Feb. 2 at Toronto’s Eaton Centre mall with Dr. Ballard announcing its sponsorship of the Toronto Humane Society’s ‘Year of the Dog.’

(This is the Chinese Year of the Dog.)

The travelling display promotes better understanding and care of dogs and will tour Toronto malls, the Canadian National Exhibition and community events.

During February and March, 1.7 million of the sampler packs – which contain Dr. Ballard Balanced Diet Dry dog food, Original canned dog food, Chomps dog biscuits and Chew-eez beefhide strips – will be distributed.

Vet’s office

The products come in a box that looks like a 1920s veterinary office.

Toronto area care packs will include a leaflet from the Toronto Humane Society which will encourage recipients to reuse the box to collect donations for the society.

The promotion was developed by Dr. Ballard in association with M. Promotional Marketing, with advertising support handled by MacLaren:Lintas.
