Newfoundland and Labrador Tourism has begun an aggressive advertising campaign aimed at luring Ontario and Maritime visitors to the eastern-most Canadian province.

The campaign is running as double-page spreads in Time and Maclean’s magazines and as 15-second tv spots.

The advertising highlights unique and quirky aspects of the province.

‘We’re focussing on the areas that offer the most potential in terms of visitors,’ says Laurie Clouston, account manager with Target Marketing and Communications, the St. John’s ad agency that created the campaign.

‘Emphasizing our differences, not our similarities, to the rest of Canada is what it’s all about,’ Clouston says.

Target is also working on new travel guides, a revised campaign for resident and friends-and-relatives markets, as well as an ongoing direct program in attracting visitors to Newfoundland. MS
