The page Three Girl of Toronto Sun fame has found another home.

That’s one of the changes to be found in the scrappy tabloid’s Sunday edition, which now boasts a magazine called The Toronto Sun Sunday Magazine.

The first revamped Sunday Sun appeared March 27 with the Page Three pin-up moved to the third page from the back of the newspaper.

Sun Publisher Jim Tighe says the new magazine is a ‘circulation-readership add-on.’

Tighe says when a paper increases its price, as the Sunday Sun did March 27, going up a quarter to $1.50 on the newsstand – there is a buyer fall-off.

He says the new magazine is meant to give Sun readers something extra in return for their 25 cents.

The home delivery price of the Sunday Sun stays at $1.25.

Before the introduction of the magazine, Tighe says the Sunday Sun had a circulation of 465,000.

He says he expects the first few editions of the made-over paper to have a circulation a tad higher at 470,000.

Tighe says the Sun’s sales staff only received a magazine mockup March 9, so ad selling time was short.

However, Tighe says General Motors of Canada bought space in the March 27 issue, as did Eaton’s department stores.

He says both companies have expressed an interest in a long-term commitment.

Tighe says despite the Page Three Girl’s new home, there are no plans to drop the highly popular feature, despite the criticism of feminists and others.

Tighe says the new magazine came from ideas Executive Editor Wayne Parrish picked up from Sunday newsprint magazines in Britain.

He says the Sunday Sun’s magazine will be on whiter, better-quality newsprint.

According to Tighe, the first part of the magazine will be hard news features, and he notes the March 27 cover story on how cheap hand guns are flooding into Canada.

He says the second part will be the Comment section, with the Sun’s assortment of bracing right-wing opinion and the Andy Donato cartoon, and the final third given to book and cd reviews and the like.
