McCann Toronto added another 30-second commercial to the rotation for Nestle Canada’s Nescafe Specialty Coffees.
The launch spot for Nescafe Cafe au Lait, which began June 13, transforms a balding, mild-mannered banker in business suit and red tie to a guitar-strumming ‘cat’ in blue jeans and T-shirt sporting a peace sign around his neck and on the bottom of his bare foot.
The product and the banker’s head are the only spots of color in the commercial and seem to be pasted on to the black-and-white setting.
The banker strums his guitar and says, ‘Me and the other cats here at the bank have recently invested in something a little wild.
‘Check this out, man – milky smooth, Nescafe Cafe au Lait. Anytime. Anywhere. It’s really right now. Which is groovy, because banking’s really not groovy.’
After sipping the Cafe au Lait, the banker breaks into song, ‘Take a look at me, I’m a cool v.p. I’ve got the money and the money…’
The song trails off to the theme-line in voiceover and super, ‘Puts you in a cafe state of mind, Nescafe Cafe au Lait.’
Credits at McCann Toronto go to Michael Fromowitz, executive creative director; Michael Wurstlin/Michael Fromowitz, art directors; Andrew Anthony, copywriter, and Jan Riley, producer.
Richard D’Allessio of Imported Artists directed the commercial, with animation from Topix Computer Graphics and editing by Third Floor Productions.
