The Canadian Home Shopping Network has hired an integrated team of marketing agencies to be led by J. Walter Thompson.

jwt is responsible for creative and strategic direction for advertising chsn.

It will also co-ordinate direct marketing through The Responsive Marketing Group and public relations through Hill & Knowlton Canada.

The federal broadcast regulator, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission, is expected to license home shopping services to begin full-motion broadcasts during the day as early as the fall.

At the moment, the crtc allows full-motion broadcasting of infomercials (most of which are American) only between midnight and 6 a.m.

Hill & Knowlton confirms the imminent crtc decision was ‘certainly a factor’ in chsn’s decision to hire an agency at this time.

The Canadian Home Shopping Network is a retail merchandiser that markets consumer products through a televised shop-at-home service.

chsn is a division of Rogers Broadcast, a subsidiary of Toronto-based Rogers Communications.
