A line of accessory products that expands the uses of the home power drill has been launched by 3M Canada.

The 3M Paint and Rust Stripper, Quick Change Sanding Kit and Drill-Mounted 2 Sanding/Finishing Kit began appearing on retail shelves in June.

Scott Mitchell, marketing supervisor for 3M Canada, says the products are aimed at the do-it-yourself market, explaining 3M’s strategy is to take tools and accessories that work in the industrial sector and repackage them for the consumer market.

Mitchell says the three products, launched in the u.s. in January, were modelled after proven industrial technologies and packaged to target the do-it-yourself market.

He says 3M will continue to focus on the power tools accessory market because there is room for new product development, and new products drive sales.

The company last attacked the do-it-yourself market in mid-May with a recyclable, single-use paint brush.

Both the handle and the bristles of the 3M Newstroke brush are made entirely of recycled paper and paper board and the brush works with all types of paint and varnish.

The company is pricing Newstroke below the price of conventional paint brushes, although 3M claims the product ranks in performance as a ‘better grade’ paint brush.
