On The Move: Associations

The Canadian Advertising Foundation has appointed Linda Nagel, president of the Bakery Council of Canada, as its new president and chief executive officer.

Nagel, who will assume her position in October, replaces John Coleman, who retired from the job earlier after a five-year term.

Brian Philcox, caf’s chairman of the board, says Nagel’s trade association experience and her role as an advisor to the federal trade minister on international trade since 1988 will stand her well in her new post.

‘Of particular importance to caf at this time, is Linda’s grasp of the concept of self-regulation and her ability to facilitate the strategic planning process,’ Philcox says.

Rafe Engle, legal council to caf, continues as interim president until Nagel’s term begins.

– Joyce Carlson is the new president of the Canadian Community Newspapers Association.

Carlson, who has been publisher of Gulf Islands Driftwood of Ganges, Salt Spring Island, since 1989, was named to the post at the association’s 75th annual convention, held July 27-30 in Charlottetown.

Carlson, a former journalist, has been president of the B.C. and Yukon Community Newspaper Association since 1989. Before that, she was marketing chair with the same association.
