Multiple winners dominated at this year’s 16th annual Billi awards for creative excellence in outdoor advertising design.

The MacLaren:Lintas tandem of David Kelso, art director, and Brad Riddoch, copywriter, won gold in the campaign category for their ads for Lever Bros.’ Vim cleaner.

Kelso and Riddoch also took top spot in the vertical category with one of the Vim ads – ‘Hog wash’ – that featured the cleaner and a Harley Davidson motorcycle.

Other multiple winners were art director David Snider and copywriter Neil McOstrich from MacLaren:Lintas.

Snider and McOstrich won gold in the horizontal category for their ‘Oh Hungry’ advertisement for Hershey Canada.

They also won silver in the vertical category for the same ad.

LA Ads’ Vickie Wild and Connie Kennedy, art directors, and Lawrence Ayliffe and Gary Titmarsh, copywriters, won silver in the campaign category for their Royal Agricultural Winter Fair ads, and placed third in the vertical category for the ‘Mounties’ ad for the same client.

Bronze winner in the campaign category was art director Jim Burt and copywriter Graham Watt of Watt Burt Advertising, in association with BBDO Canada, for Ontario Milk Marketing Board ads.

Foster Advertising’s Benjamin Vendramin, art director, and Robert McDougall, copywriter, took silver in the horizontal category for Revlon Canada – Mitchum deodorant effort.

Mark Mizgala, art director, and Chris Staples, copywriter, from Palmer Jarvis Advertising, came third for their McDonald’s Restaurants of Canada ad.

Emily Colisimo, Colin Winn and Dennis Forbes, from D’Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles Canada, and Michael McLaughlin and Stephen Creet from BBDO Canada, won certificates of excellence for their public service campaigns.

The 1994 Billies were hosted – for the first time – by the Outdoor Advertising Association of Canada.

Before that, Mediacom sponsored the awards. DC
