Compaq Canada says its next-generation, feature-packed, multimedia Presario series is the ‘ultimate home appliance.’

The Presario 400, 500, 700, and 900 series computers offer a cd-rom sound system with stereo speakers, voice mail, a speaker phone, a built-in fax/modem, and, perhaps most significantly, selected models offer television capability.

tv tuner cards have been available as aftermarket additions, but the integrated Compaq card allows users to fill their screen partially or fully with tv while working on other Windows applications.

‘The systems are first and foremost mainstream powerful pcs with a host of multimedia and communications capabilities,’ says Ralph Hyatt, Compaq Canada’s consumer marketing manager.

Priced between $2,099 and $2,999, the series continues Compaq’s aggressive assault on the consumer market started last August with the launch of the Presario line.

Compaq will market the totally integrated 500 series towards the families.

Hyatt says the other lines are directed at the home-office market.

Compaq will promote the line with a strong print campaign beginning later this month, and will piggyback on the company’s assertive ongoing brand-promotion strategy.

tv advertising and a booklet available through a 1-800 number are also in the works. Ad agency is Ammirati & Puris of Toronto. AB
