A new cross-promotion this Christmas season links two of the best known electronics names in the world.
An IBM Canada and Sony Canada venture offers free a Sony Discman to consumers who buy selected ibm personal computers.
The program began Nov. 28 and runs until the end of the year.
This Discman offer is limited to Canada.
ibm is supporting the cross-promotion with a national radio campaign and a print buy that began Nov. 30.
Ogilvy & Mather Canada in Toronto is ibm’s agency. Sony has not planned any promotional advertising.
The promotion’s selected computers are the Aptiva 330, 331, 510, 511, 530 and 710; the Ambra AMV 8710200, and the ThinkPad 340 and 355.
Consumers who buy any one of these models get a two-part voucher to fill out and send away for their Discman, worth more than $150 retail.
The top half of the voucher can be used as a gift certificate for customers who want to give their Discman to a family member or friend.
