Yet another Canadian publication has gone the cd-rom route.

The Hockey News has released Inside Hockey in an initial pressing of 10,000 cds.

Ed Pearce, publisher of the 47-year-old Hockey News, says Inside Hockey grew out of his paper’s hockey year book of facts and figures.

And, Pearce says, as many of his subscribers take the Hockey News just for the game’s statistics, the new cd is ‘the ultimate statistics package.’

He says the cd costs $49.95 plus tax in Canada, and the same amount in American currency in the u.s.

Pearce says some cds found their way to store shelves in Quebec a few days before Christmas, but the bulk of them will be available this month in retail and computer stores across the country, and through Hockey News’ merchandising department.

Dave Bean, project co-ordinator for Inside Hockey, says The Hockey News plans to release an updated cd every year.

Inside Hockey contains Hockey News stories since 1947, recapping each year’s Stanley Cup final, as well as features written just for the cd; National Hockey League formats featuring Stanley Cup winners and leading scorers for every season since 1917-18.; the evolution of nhl team logos, names and franchises since 1917; each nhl team’s trophies, records and statistics; all-stars and Hall of Fame players, and more than 700 photos of active and former players and coaches, and the numbers on more than 5,000 players.

Unlike some ‘cd magazines,’ Pearce says there is no advertising on Inside Hockey.
