Digital Equipment of Canada has promoted its vice-president of sales and marketing, Graeme Woodley, to president and chief executive officer, effective April 1.

Woodley replaces Ron Larkin, who has been promoted to Digital’s u.s. head office in Maynard, Mass., where he will become vice-president of marketing and business operation, accounts business unit.

Digital has yet to name Woodley’s replacement.

– QMS Canada has tapped a former Xerox Canada marketing executive to be its new national marketing manager, systems products.

Alan McCann, who was previously marketing manager for Xerox’s production systems division, has taken over marketing responsibility for qms’ line of high-end laser printers capable of printing 20 pages plus per minute.

– The former vice-president of merchandising for K mart Canada has been named president of The Business Depot.

Ed Harasant assumes responsibility for Business Depot’s 47 existing stores, and will oversee the opening of another 15-plus stores this year.

Harasant replaces Business Depot founder Jack Bingleman, who was named president of Staples, Business Depot’s parent company, last year.

– British Airways and U.S. Air have announced the appointment of a director of marketing, who will be responsible for both airlines.

Alastair Fernie, British Airways’ regional marketing manager, Southern Europe, will move to Toronto in February.

– McDonald’s Restaurants of Canada has announced two senior managment appointments in its Western Canada division.

Ron Knight has been named director, corporate services, responsible for marketing, human resources, training and purchasing.

As well, Brad Gamble has been named the division’s director of marketing.

– AT&T Global Information Systems has named Ron Smith as its new president and chief executive officer.

Smith was formerly vice-president, new business acquisition with Amdahl.

He replaces Marcel Carrier, who will retire June 30, 1995.

– MCA Concerts Canada has announced a number of personnel changes, among them the departure of its director of West Coast operations, Paul Mercs.

mca has yet to name a replacement.

At its head office in Toronto, the firm has promoted Rene Blackman, formerly national marketing manager, to the post of director of marketing.

Blackman retains responsibility for the marketing programs of the concert company, and adds responsibility for the new Molson Amphitheatre in Toronto’s Ontario Place.

Debbi Rix has been promoted from national promotions and publicity manager to director, promotions and publicity.

Pina Borrello, formerly a financial administrative assistant with the firm, has been named marketing manager.

Carol Hines, previously a marketing assistant, has been promoted to marketing co-ordinator.

And, Noni Raskin, formerly director of marketing and special projects with Toronto radio station cfny fm, has joined mca as promotion manager.
