Sony of Canada is releasing a more economical, cd-recorder for the North American computer market.
Depending on the software used with it, the CDU-920S will be able to record cd audio, cd-rom, CD-i, or any other cd writing formats.
It is the first of two cd recorders to be released by Sony in coming months.
Current cd-recorders tend to cost about $5,000 and are external to the computer, but this new product will come in internal and external versions.
The cd-recorder will be packaged with software from Corel, called Corel Creator, which gives the user the ability to lay out the data properly.
The internal unit with the Corel Creator software will retail for about $2,599. Other configurations will cost up to $2,999.
Advertising for the product will appear in June or July when more units will be available.
Sony’s more expensive CDW-900E cd-recorder has been discontinued.
