Wave rolls into Toronto: Rogers high-speed Internet access vehicle

Rogers Cablesystems and property developer Tridel Corporation have teamed up to introduce Rogers wave high speed Internet access and digital cable services to the new Northtown housing development in north Toronto.

Paul Nielsen, vice-president of sales and marketing for Rogers, says the wave rollout is the first in Toronto and will be followed by others in the next 12 to 18 months. Unlimited wave access costs $39.95 a month.

Rogers has 600 wave subscribers in the Toronto suburb of Newmarket, but that project has been considered a test.

As for the digital cable services, Nielsen says that is something of a technical trial and will begin in October. He says some of the many more channels provided by digital compression will be taken up by pay-per-view services.
