Sears Canada is searching for partners that will accept its store credit card.
The department store has announced that the new Sears card can be used to buy gas at Shell Canada outlets across Canada.
By relaunching the card, with a snazzy new Sears Club logo and the promise of more retailers in the future, Sears is hoping to pave the way to a stronger core customer base.
For now, the company is mailing out 6.2 million cards to current active Sears card holders across the country.
‘We’ve always wanted to increase the use of the card,’ says Ray Bird, vice-president of credit at Sears.
By using the card more often, customers can accumulate Sears points, which they can redeem for product, says Bird. It ultimately translates into more traffic and sales, he says.
Bird says there will be no specific advertising, but in-store promotion of the card will continue as always.
Both companies are sponsors of Air Miles so a customer can collect twice the points by filling up at a Shell station. They can get Air Miles from Shell and points which can go towards Air Miles from Sears by showing both cards.
