Service Experts, a Dallas, Tex.-based heating and air conditioning service company, has hired Vickers & Benson Direct + Interactive to handle direct response marketing for its chain of 150 service centres. The business is valued at US$2 million. VBDI is the shop used by Service Experts’ Canadian affiliate, Lennox Retail Canada.

Old Navy has put its Canadian broadcast buying account in the hands of Toronto-based media management firm Starcom Worldwide. The discount clothing chain, a division of San Francisco-based Gap, handles creative and the rest of its media business in-house. The client plans to open 12 stores in southern Ontario beginning in April.

The Columbia Brewing Co., a Creston, B.C.-based subsidiary of Labatt Breweries of Canada, has moved its estimated $2.5-million ad assignment for Kokanee beer to Vancouver-based Palmer Jarvis DDB from Bryant, Fulton & Shee. PJDDB’s Toronto office has Labatt’s Budweiser business.

The Department of Canadian Heritage and Parks Canada has split its national communications business between incumbent Scott Thornley & Co. of Toronto, in partnership with Publicité Martin of Montreal, and Groupe Everest, also of Montreal.

McDonald’s Restaurants of Canada has moved its Canadian promotions business to The Marketing Store Worldwide of Toronto from Chicago, where the business was split between the agency’s sister shop and Simon Marketing. Dennis Irwin, former senior director of marketing at McDonald’s and the agency’s new VP of retail marketing, will manage the assignment.
