With 1996 Canadian Census data at its oldest point, and the complete census not available until 2003, MapInfo of Toronto, has released new 2002 Canadian geodemographic data to help organizations better understand and target their customers. The data features more than 100 new variables covering such topics as labour force, education, marital status, home language and occupation. Other product updates for 2002 include Consumers Spending Potential Canada, Consumer Food Spending Potential Canada, and Household Facilities and Equipment.

CORNERSTONE, EQUIFAX DELIVER CREDIT STATS

Toronto-based Cornerstone Data Innovations and Equifax of Toronto, are teaming up to allow direct marketers in Canada to enhance their targeting power by using Equifax’s Credit Behaviour Segmentations (ECBS) system on Universe Canada list rental orders. The latter is one of the largest and most comprehensive national databases, with over 11 million records. The new service will deliver credit-based behavioural consumer segmentation using credit data compiled at the postal-code level.

SOURCE FOR SPORTS DEBUTS GIFT CARD

Burlington, Ont.-based Source for Sports is doing away with paper in favour of plastic gift cards and online gift certificates. The retail buying group, which consists of 151 independently owned sporting good stores, is working with Toronto-based Givex Canada Corp. to roll out cards, as well as e-gift certificates that can be delivered electronically to a recipient on a specific date, then redeemed at any location. Givex – a New York-based firm that specializes in gift certificate management – only recently unveiled its Web-based loyalty solution, which runs concurrently with the gift card application, allowing users to create a real-time CRM system that works across all sales channels.
