Home Hardware Stores, headquartered in St. Jacobs, Ont., has named Ron Goldade as chairman of the board of directors. Goldade has owned and operated his own store in Neepawa, Man. since 1985 and has served on Home Hardware’s board since 1990. He is also a past president of the Canadian Retail Hardware Association.
Simmons Canada in Brampton, Ont. has appointed Terence H. Pace as president and CEO. Pace joined the mattress manufacturer 17 years ago and held a variety of executive positions prior to his promotion.
AGENCIES
Larry Gordon and David Innis, both of Vickers & Benson Arnold, have left the Toronto-based agency to set up their own shop, named Non-Fat, according to an industry source. Gordon, who was executive VP and CD at V&BA, and Innis, who was VP and senior writer, are expected to open their doors early this month.
Dom Caruso has been appointed president of Cossette Toronto and EVP of Cossette Communication Group. Caruso was previously president and CEO at MacLaren McCann Canada in Toronto. He also serves as member in council for the Ontario College of Art and Design.
Douglas Turney, currently GM of MacLaren McCann Canada in Toronto, has been promoted to the position of president and COO. Turney joined the agency in 1998 as SVP.
Roger Jewett, currently a director and CFO at Calgary’s RareMethod, will immediately assume the role of company president and CEO. He replaces Molly Mak.
MacLaren McCann West’s Vancouver office has named Hagan Ainsworth to the post of VP/CD. Ainsworth comes from Hill Holliday, San Francisco. And Sloan Dinning has been named account director. Dinning moves from Cossette in Halifax.
Gary Grafton, partner with Wasserman & Partners Advertising in Vancouver, has been appointed chairman of Worldwide Partners, a global network of owner-operated marketing communications firms. Wasserman is a shareholder of Worldwide Partners.
Impact Blue has brought on Jimm Holland as VP, client service at the Calgary-based company’s new communications division. Holland was previously VP, client service at Highwood Communications.
Nicholas Léfèbvre has joined the Montreal office of Leo Burnett as VP, agency development. Meanwhile Elsie Fehr and Arthur Shah have joined Leo Burnett Toronto as creative group heads. Most recently at Zig, both Fehr and Shah have also worked at Grey, Cossette and Ogilvy & Mather.
Vancouver-based Detroit Creative Group is expanding from a design studio to a complete strategic communications and creative design firm. Its expanded team will include Mark Gascoigne as director of strategy and client services and Sophia Fu as account services manager. In addition, Natalie van Rooyen joins as account services co-ordinator.
Robyn Brooking has joined Harrison Young Pesonen & Newell as direct response manager. Most recently Brooking held the position of communications manager for the Electronic Commerce Council of Canada. She brings 12 years of direct-to-consumer experience within the pharmaceutical industry to her new job.
Erin Harris had been promoted to key account manager for Aware Marketing Group in Toronto.
Julia Cha has been hired by Toronto’s Round Table as its new art director. Cha comes from Ground Zero Marketing Communications, and has also worked with Echo Advertising, Taxi and Roche Macaulay.
MediaVest Worldwide in Toronto has some new faces. Jason Lloyd joins as a planner. He has worked with FCB/TN Media, HYPN and MBS. Robert Finegold also comes on board as a planner. Elizabeth Clarke-Joyce joins as media planning supervisor, arriving from FCB/TN Media.
Liz Ashworth, previously with Ammirati Puris, has joined Bates Canada in Toronto as an account director on the Pfizer account. She has also worked at TBWAChiatDay, Cossette and Leo Burnett.
Aimee Beeston has been promoted to account executive at Toronto’s Trojan Sports and Event Marketing. Prior to joining, Beeston spent time at the Sydney Olympics working in the event field for NBC.

Hill and Knowlton Canada of Toronto has appointed Diane Burgess as COO and CFO in Toronto. Most recently, Burgess was president and CEO of DuPont Pharma.
Cohn & Wolfe Healthcare in Toronto has promoted Fiona Bassett from account co-ordinator to account executive.
