Xerox Corporation will promote Doug Lord to president and CEO of Xerox Canada Jan 1. Lord, of Mississauga, Ont., will continue as SVP of the graphic arts sector of the company’s North American Solutions Group until his appointment becomes effective. D. Cameron Hyde, current president and CEO will become SVP and GM of the corporation’s North American agent operations, and will be headquartered in Rochester, N.Y.

E.D. Smith & Sons, of Winona, Ont., has appointed Michael Burrows president and CEO. Burrows takes over management responsibility from Llewellyn S. Smith, who will remain a member of the company’s board of directors. For the last six years, Burrows was president and COO of Janes Family Foods where, under his tenure, sales more than tripled.

Vancouver-based TELUS has appointed Mark Schnarr, who is currently EVP TELUS Ventures, to lead a new business marketing division in his additional role as EVP, marketing. Schnarr has more than 20 years of business experience at TELUS in a variety of positions, including marketing, business development and general management.

DDB Group Canada has promoted Tony Altilia to CEO and president of Downtown Partners DDB in Toronto. Altilia, who has over 25 years of international advertising experience, joined DDB Group Canada in 2001 as national president and COO of Palmer Jarvis DDB.

Stephen Dick has been named VP, promotion marketing & partner for The GEM Group, Toronto. He is responsible for brand and business development for GEM’s promotion marketing clients.

TMP Worldwide Advertising & Communications, Canada is pleased to announce the appointment of Gary Makar to the role of general manager, FWJ/TMP Integrated Marketing Communications, Calgary. Makar assumes this responsibility in addition to his role as VP, advertising.

Online marketing expert N5R, of Toronto, has announced Joe Kostyk as its new director of sales and client services. Joe Kostyk brings to N5R over 20 years as a marketing specialist. N5R also adds Audrey Kaersenhout as senior project manager. Prior to joining N5R, Kaersenhout served as the manager of client & technical services for Rogers Media, eLibrary Canada.

Alyea Aguilar-Henderson has joined Starcom Worldwide, in Toronto, as media supervisor, working on AOL, Atlantic Canada Tourism Partnership, FHP and Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts. Aguilar-Henderson comes to Starcom from HYPN.

The MC Group of Companies, of London, Ont., has added Ron Taylor to its ranks. Taylor joins the full-service agency as director of agricultural strategic planning.

Youthography, a youth marketing and communications consultancy based in Toronto, welcomes Chris Fowler as production head for all its events and promotions projects. Fowler brings with him years of leadership experience in the action sports and board culture arenas.

Initiative Media in Toronto has promoted four staff members. Johanna Maulawin has moved from account supervisor to account director. Steve Aronovitch, previously a broadcast supervisor, has been promoted to group broadcast director. And Stephanie Mediati and Nelson Costa have been named broadcast buyers.

Kevin Durkee has joined Family Channel, in Toronto, in the newly created position of promotions account manager. Durkee will be responsible for building up Family Channel’s promotional presence through third-party sponsorships, promotions, contests and online activities.

Michael Gannon has joined Captivate Network, Toronto, a national news and entertainment network seen in elevators, as EVP of sales and marketing. Gannon joined Captivate from Wink Communications, where he served as VP, sales.
