BMO Financial Group in Toronto has appointed the following: Michael Beckerman has been named SVP and CMO, BMO Financial Group. Beckerman was previously SVP, corporate marketing. Meanwhile, Barbara Budarick has been appointed VP, brand strategy and development and Sandy Bourne has been named VP, advertising.

AGENCIES

Denis Piquette is the newly appointed president of Toronto-based Bates Canada. Piquette replaces former CEO Graham Avery, who has left the company. Piquette has experience on both the client and the agency sides, working for such companies as Merrell Dow Pharmaceuticals and Ogilvy & Mather. Piquette also owned his own advertising agency, before its acquisition in 2001 by CCG Group (a unit of Bates Worldwide).

Martin Strazovec has been named EVP/CCO at Toronto’s Lowe RMP. Strazovec has been MD at Lowe for the last two years.

Beth Howlett has been named account executive at St. John’s, Nfld.-based Target Marketing & Communications.

Lisa Reifenberg has been named MD of Vancouver-based Fusion Alliance Marketing, a division of Optimum Public Relations (a unit of Cossette Communication Group). Meanwhile, Tanis Sullivan has been named account manager for Optimum.

Toronto agency MACPHEE has named Pamela Lawson VP, director, strategic planning, and Scott Tabachnick has been appointed director, public relations.

Interactive agency D3 Canada of Toronto has hired the following: Allison Lane joins as business development manager; Kelly Lee Smith will lead the consumer relationship insights & communications group; Kris Faibish has been named director at D3; and André Poirier and Andrea Sellon join as business development managers.

Grey Direct of Toronto has promoted Robin Whalen to group account director. Whalen joined the agency in January 2001. Meanwhile, Shawna Hardy has been promoted to account director at Grey Direct + Interactive. Hardy joined Grey in March 2000 as account manager on the E*TRADE account.

Mark Rouse has been named VP, director of client services for Toronto-based communications firm Mighty Integrated. Rouse was most recently VP, group account director at J. Walter Thompson.

BIMM Communications of Toronto has hired Sean Garvey as account director.

Karine Ettedgui has joined Montreal-based professional services firm Aquent as business development manager. Aquent is a provider of creative and IT solutions.

MEDIA

Moses Znaimer has officially stepped down from his roles as VP, corporate development, CHUM Limited and president/executive producer of 17 of CHUM’s TV stations. Znaimer will continue to serve as director, chairman and executive producer of Learning and Skills Television of Alberta and The Learning Annex.
