Swipe Books, a Toronto bookstore specializing in graphic design and advertising, has changed its name and moved to the Design Exchange.
The newly renovated Exchange is at 234 Bay St. in Toronto.
The new name of the seven-year-old bookstore, which was previously located at 145 Berkeley St., is indx: the design exchange store.
Tina Hadjidimitriou, who co-founded Swipe with her husband, David Michaelides, says she has been waiting to make the move for 6 1/2 years, ever since she first heard that a group of design professionals had come together to open a design exposition centre in the city.
Indx took up residence in its new location Aug. 1. The official opening of the Design Exchange was Sept. 24.
Hadjidimitriou, who worries people might not know what happened to her store, says she will send letters to all her regular customers in the next month or so as part of a direct mail campaign.
In addition to books on design and advertising, indx will carry a selection of products from around the world that are highly regarded for their design, from Braun clocks and watches, to Lofox bicycle helmets, and Apple’s Newton MessagePad computers.
