For the record: New Cantonese radio station

Well-connected Hong Kong interests intend to launch an all-Cantonese radio station in Toronto next month.

The Oriental Broadcasting Network will broadcast on AM 1320 with 10 hours of continuous programming from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. daily. In August, the network will begin broadcasting 24 hours a day.

Cantonese is the native tongue of Hong Kong Chinese. Vancouver – which already has all-Chinese radio stations – has the second-largest Chinese community in Canada after Toronto.

The chairman of the Richmond Hill, Ont.-based station is Michael Pang, who, over the last 25 years, has built up considerable experience establishing radio and tv stations in the Far East.
