Ascom Timplex Canada has appointed Anthony D. Caputo as manager, marketing and business development.

Caputo joined Ascom in 1992 as manager of the firm’s Reseller and Alliance program.

In his new role, he will be responsible for product marketing, corporate communications and strategic alliances.

Ascom designs, installs, supports and services local area data, wide area data, voice and video networks.

– Redken Laboratories Canada has named David Spragge as its new marketing manager.

Spragge, who joined the Mississauga, Ont.-based firm Feb. 28, was previously a marketing manager with Christie Brown’s recently dismantled snack food division.

Redken produces a range of hair care products, including cat shampoo and Shades EQ hair color, for the professional salon market.

Spragge replaces Redken’s former national sales and marketing manager, Susan Linderman, who left the firm earlier in the year to become international sales manager for Tressa, a direct competitor of Redken.

Sanderson Layng has joined Coventry Communications, Toronto as partner responsible for all marketing and business development.

Layng brings his social marketing expertise to Coventry, which offers closed-captioning, dubbing, distribution, fulfillment and storage services.

He had been running his own social marketing firm, Sanderson Layng Associates, for 20 years.

– Teichman Communica-tions has named Terry McGee as director of strategic development and account management.

McGee worked for CBS/Sony Canada, the CN Tower in Toronto, J. Walter Thompson Retail and ran his own agency, Terry McGee Advertising.

– Mark Bennett has joined The Landmark Group’s Toronto office as vice-president, corporate marketing.

Bennett joined Landmark after nine years at American Express Canada.

Media:

– Matthew Church has been appointed editor of Active magazine, a new publication owned by Southam and published by Toronto-based Airmedia.

Active, a bi-monthly magazine, will have a distribution of 400,000 to selected newspaper subscribers in seven major markets across Canada.

Church has been editor of enRoute magazine, also published by Airmedia, for four years.

– Frank Mangialardi has joined Postal Promotions as director of sales and marketing.

Before joining Toronto’s Postal Promotions, Mangialardi was sales manager for fca in Marion, Ohio.

– Effective June 1, Andrew Prozes takes over as president, Southam City & Community Newspapers.

For the last two years, Prozes has been president of Southam Information and Technology Group.

In his new position, Prozes will retain responsibility for all electronic initiatives associated with newspapers.

Also effective June 1, Bill Mann, president of Southam Magazine Group, will add to his responsibilities, the direction of Southam’s North American Construction Information Group and other non-newspaper related information businesses.

Associations:

The Canadian Direct Marketing Association has appointed Hugh Furneaux as its new chairman.

Furneaux, the president of Ariad Custom Publishing, took over from Maclean Hunter’s Michael J. Fox.

Over the last year, Furneaux has served as chairman of the cdma’s publishing council.

He has also been the program chairman of the past two cdma conventions and served as a board member during the 1980s.

– The Association of Canadian Advertisers has named Joan Curran as vice-president of marketing.

Curran replaces Bob Reaume, who left the association in January to become president of the Canadian Outdoor Measurement Bureau and the Outdoor Advertising Association of Canada.

Curran has worked client side, in the financial industry, and agency side, with such agencies as Ogilvy & Mather, J. Walter Thompson and MacLaren Advertising.
