Hostess to distribute Planters

Hostess-Frito Lay has entered into an agreement with Hershey Canada to distribute a revamped line of the latter’s single-serve Planters products.

The new line, called Snack ‘N Go, is set to begin shipping Feb. 21.

As part of the agreement, both companies will phase out their existing single-serve lines.

Hostess markets three products under its Hostess-Frito Lay label: salted, bbq and honey-roasted.

Hershey’s Planters line includes salted and dry roasted peanuts.

Doug McGillivray, category manager, single-serve products at Hostess, says new Snack ‘N Go Planters will include the above flavors plus cashew nuts and mixed nuts.

McGillivray, who estimates the single-serve nut market to be worth about $30 million in annual retail sales, says the brand will be a powerhouse in the category because it combines Planters’ brand equity with Hostess’ strong distribution capabilities in the single-serve, salty-snack market. PA
