Fera interim president at Ontario Lottery

Ontario Lottery Corporation has named Lou Fera, vice-president of human resources, as interim president.

Fera takes over from the previous president, Ian Nielsen-Jones.

olc expects to appoint a permanent president by the end of its current fiscal year on March 31, 1994.

Nielsen-Jones left the firm Nov. 12 to head up a bid by u.k.-based Rank Organisation to win the contract to launch a nationally owned lottery in the u.k.

The u.k., which until recently banned lotteries, has announced it will contract the management of the lottery out to a private firm.

– Thrifty Car Rental has restructured its marketing department, naming Ron Kerr, former director of national marketing, as senior director of marketing.

In his new capacity, Kerr takes on responsibility for the company’s regional and local marketing efforts. He reports to company President Lucio DiClemente.

Robert Swanborough, director of regional and local markeging, continues in that capacity. However, under the new structure, he reports directly to Kerr, rather than to DiClemente, as he did in the past.

The new arrangement is intended to enhance the co-ordination of national and regional marketing efforts and expose company marketing executives to both sides of the business.

– Teknion Furniture Systems has announced two senior management changes.

Monty Brown, company president since 1983, has been promoted to chairman.

Taking over the presidency is Murray Archer, formerly Teknion’s vice-president, international operations.

Bozell Palmer Bonner in Toronto has made three new appointments.

Robert McDougall, formerly a senior writer with McCann-Erickson Advertising, becomes a senior writer.

Before McCann-Erickson, he spent 10 years with Hayhurst-Multicom in Calgary.

A new position has been created for Matthew Hawkins, who will be researching worldwide socio-artistic trends as creative trends researcher.

Benjamin Vendramin joins Bozell as senior art director.

Vendramin previously held art director positions with McCann-Erickson and J. Walter Thompson in Toronto.

– Two promotions have been announced at Palmer Jarvis Advertising, Vancouver.

Tom Shepansky, with the agency since 1991 as account supervisor, has moved up to account director.

Shepansky was with Intergroup Advertising, Edmonton and Francis Williams and Johnson before joining pj.

Sue Anne Linde, previously senior account executive, has been named account supervisor. Linde joined pj in 1985 after six years of managing the special events department of a major Canadian retailer.

– Heikki Kuld has been promoted to senior vice-president, broadcast production at Doner Schur Peppler Advertising, Toronto.

Kuld, previously vice-president broadcast production, has been with the agency since 1986.

– Neilsen Marketing Research has pegged Steve Buckley to be its head of corporate communications, effective Jan. 1.

Buckley, whose title will be vice-president of communications, replaces former vice-president, corporate affairs, Rob Garner.

– Four staffers at Leo Burnett Company have added vice-president to their titles after recent promotions at the Toronto agency.

Marg Arnold, previously manager, is now vice-president, creative services. Arnold has been with the agency for more than five years.

Gladys Bachand, with Burnett for more than six years, has been named vice-president production manager.

Rick Kemp has added vice-president to his senior art director title after nearly four years with the firm.

Wendy Luk is now vice-president, account director. Luk joined Burnett five years ago and is responsible for the Bell Canada account.

– Brian Chadderton has joined Jeffrey Elliott Communications of Toronto, an mdc company, as senior vice-president.

Chadderton was most recently senior vice-president of Berger & Associates, a post he left this past September.

Before switching to the fields of public affairs and marketing communications 15 years ago, Chadderton was municipal affairs bureau chief and parliamentary reporter for The Ottawa Journal newspaper.

– David Fortin has opened his own firm called Trajectoire, Virtual projects in communication to handle strategic marketing, research and production.

Fortin is a former product manager for Campbell Soup/ Catelli and most recently director of client services at Prism Communications in Montreal.

– Julie Andras has signed on as senior counsellor at Burson-Marsteller, Toronto, and will be setting up the firm’s new high technology division, which includes new clients Sun Microsystems of Canada and Maxm Systems.

Five of Andras eight years in communications have been spent working with high-tech clients.

Sidney Cohen has been named to the newly created position of executive producer, new program development, for the CTV Television Network.

Cohen, former executive producer of ctv’s Canada AM, is replaced in that slot by Fiona Conway, the show’s producer.

In his new job, Cohen will spearhead the presentation of ctv’s two specialty channel applications.
