Kessler, Sachedina buy Sportfishing Network

Two of Canada’s most successful partnerships have joined forces.

Syd Kessler and Salim Sachedina, who recently sold their stake in Supercorp to John Labatt, have bought 50% of The Canadian Sportfishing Communications Network from owners and founders Henry Waszczuk and Italo Labignan.

Waszczuk, in an interview from his company’s headquarters in Waterdown, Ont., says he and his partner sold half of the business because they just could not do any more.

Waszczuk says they both want more time to give to developing higher quality fishing shows, magazines and products.

As well, Waszczuk says the Kessler Group’s expertise will help acquisitions and expansion.

He and Labignan sold half the company because 50% is a ‘pretty simple figure,’ giving them all everything to gain and everything to lose.

Kessler, in a prepared statement before he left on a business trip to Japan, said fishing is Canada’s largest participation sport and he was ‘astounded’ to learn the $8-billion-a-year industry attracts fans from every demographic.

He said Waszczuk’s and Labignan’s fishing series is a natural buy for tv advertisers. DC
