The quaker Oats Company of Canada increased the responsibilities of its president, David L. Morton, on July 27 to include that of chief executive officer.

Morton, who joined Quaker Oats in 1973, has been president and chief operating officer since January 1992.

Morton succeeds former ceo Jon K. Grant, who will assume the position of non-executive chairman of the board.

– Warner-Lambert, of Morris Plains, n.j., has picked a marketing executive from its Canadian division to assume a senior position in its consumer health products business.

Suresh Kumar, formerly category manager, mouthwashes, at Warner-Lambert Canada has been named marketing director of consumer health products for North America, Europe and Japan.

Kumar began his marketing career in his native India with Johnson & Johnson, later moving on to Unilever.

He spent the last four years with Warner-Lambert Canada.

A year ago, Kumar spearheaded the relaunch of Listerine mouthwash in Quebec. In March, he led the national launch of Warner-Lambert’s first line extension to its Listerine brand, Cool Mint Listerine.

– American Express Canada has appointed Pamela Arway as vice-president and general manager for travel management services, responsible for corporate card, business travel and leisure travel.

Arway joined Amex in 1987 as director, corporate card/business travel marketing. Later, she was promoted to vice-president, card marketing, Amex Bank of Canada, responsible for marketing activities related to the Personal, Gold and Platinum cards, the Front of the Line benefit, Merchandise Services and Creative Services.

Her most recent position was vice-president and general manager, leisure travel.

Arway, who earned a master of business administration at Queen’s University, recently served as chairman of the Canadian Direct Marketing Association.

– Epson Canada has named Yves Millette as its vice-president of marketing and original equipment manufacturing division.

Millette, a five-year Epson employee, was most recently vice-president of business application development.

Before that, he spent two years as director of sales for Epson in Western Canada.

– The Australian Tourist Commission has named Bill Baker as regional director, the Americas, based in Los Angeles.

Most recently, Baker served as the atc’s area manager, Central and Southern Europe.

Baker was based in Los Angeles from 1984-90, during which time he was part of the team that developed the commission’s well-known ‘Shrimp on the Barbie’ campaign featuring Australian comedian and actor Paul Hogan.

Baker’s responsibilities will include consumer and trade marketing, and the implementation of an organizational restructuring.

Agencies:

Donald Roy, with Air Canada for the past 27 years, has joined Busskamp & Kelly of Montreal as vice-president and general manager of Busskamp & Kelly Direct.

Roy’s most recent position with Air Canada was director of advertising and he was also responsible for its Aeroplan frequent flyer program.

Also new to Busskamp & Kelly Direct is Sharon Greer, who has signed on as account executive.

Greer has worked on direct marketing campaigns for clients such as EnRoute card and Aeroplan in Montreal with FCB Direct and public relations firm Robin Palin Associates.

– Two new copywriters joined Ambrose Carr Linton Kelly of Toronto last week.

Alex Shipley comes from Singapore, where he worked for Ogilvy & Mather, McCann-Erickson and, for the past three years, Saatchi & Saatchi.

Mandy Reid joins the agency after three years with Brunico Communications, publisher of Strategy and Playback, where she was most recently advertising creative director.

Before moving to Brunico, Reid was with Toronto firms VTR Productions and Command Post and Transfer.

– Terry Rushbrook has joined The Media Consulting Group as director of research.

For the past 20 years, Rushbrook has worked extensively in marketing and media research and computer systems applications in Canada and the u.k.

He was most recently with Maclean Hunter as general manager, Publishing Systems Group and research and sales development manager of the Chatelaine Magazine Group.

The Media Consulting Group is a division of Genesis Media, which is partly owned by Vickers & Benson Advertising.

– Greg Trinier, for the past two years vice-president, associate creative director at Gee Jeffery & Partners, has signed on with Ross Roy Canada of Toronto as senior creative director.

Before Gee Jeffery, Trinier spent two years as vice-president, group creative head at Grey Canada after four years of running his own agency.

Sharon Oatway has been appointed to the new position of director of sales, residential, at long distance telephone company Unitel Communications, where she will oversee the company’s inbound and outbound telemarketing operations.

Oatway assumed the position July 26.

She left the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce July 16, where she had been general manager, direct response.

While at the bank, Oatway oversaw four divisions: CIBC Contact, the bank’s inbound and outbound telemarketing department; the Direct Marketing Business Development Unit, which plans the bank’s direct mail campaigns; Alternate Distribution Channels, which develops products such as CIBC LinkUp, the company’s banking by phone service; and Operations, the order processing department.

Oatway’s position has not yet been filled. A spokesman for the bank says her responsibilities may be split among two or more people.

– The new promotions and public relations manager for Toronto Life Fashion Magazine is Susan Elliot.

In her new role, Elliot will develop and execute all special events and promo campaigns for the magazine. She will also work on new business acquisition.

Before joining Toronto Life Fashion, Elliot was the project manager for a Toronto marketing company.

– John Brosseau has joined Mediacom as vice-president, sales and marketing, for the company’s Eastern Canada region –Quebec, the Maritimes and Ottawa/Hull.

Before joining Mediacom, Brosseau was director of marketing for MusiquePlus in Montreal.

He will be based in the Quebec metropolis.
