David Lewis has landed on his feet at Unitel Communications after being cut loose by Reebok Canada three months ago.
Lewis had been president and chief executive officer of Aurora, Ont.-based Reebok, but found himself after a Jan. 1 restructuring downgraded from the top position at the Canadian subsidiary of president to general manager.
Effective July 19, Toronto-based Unitel appointed Lewis vice-president of consumer services, responsible for marketing voice products to residential subscribers and small businesses.
– Backstage Pass has named Brian Stutz as its director of marketing and sales.
Previously, Stutz acted as a marketing consultant for the Toronto-based company, which distributes licensed entertainment products. As well, he was director of marketing for Brockum Canada and promotion manager for Concert Productions International.
– The Canadian Olympic Association has hired Paul Shugart as its director of marketing, effective July 19.
For the previous three and a half years, Shugart held the post of senior vice-president with Christopher Lang & Associates, a Toronto sports marketing agency.
Before that, he held marketing and sales positions with Warner-Lambert Canada, American Express Canada and The Financial Times of Canada, all of Toronto.
– Eaton Centre Metrotown in Burnaby, b.c. has appointed Brenda Granlund as marketing director.
Granlund was previously senior account executive with Palmer Jarvis Advertising of Vancouver.
Eaton Centre Metroland is a 1.2 million-square-foot mixed-use property consisting of a shopping centre and office complex, owned and operated by Cambridge Shopping Centres.
– National Real Estate Service of Vancouver has named Jack Gancher as director of marketing and services, Western Canada.
Gancher has been with nrs since 1972.
– Whistler Resort Association has appointed Barrett Fisher as director of marketing.
In her new position, Fisher will be responsible for advertising, promotions, market research and media relations.
Fisher, who has been with Whistler for four years, previously oversaw the department of advertising and promotions.
– B.C. Pavilion of Vancouver has announced several sales and marketing changes.
Tracey Cochrane, formerly event co-ordinator, has assumed the newly created position of sponsorshop co-ordinator, working on behalf of all five Pavilion facilities.
Lauren Thomas has joined the Fraser Valley Trade & Exhibition Centre (tradex) as sales/event co-ordinator. Thomas was formerly employed in a marketing capacity with the B.C. Lions.
Tracey Short, formerly sales manager of B.C. Place Stadium, becomes assistant facility manager at the Robson Square Conference Centre. Short, who spent three years as an event co-ordinator with the Vancouver Trade & Convention Centre, will become manager of Robson with the next year.
Graham Ramsay, formerly Convention Centre senior event co-ordinator, has assumed Short’s previous post.
Agencies
Janette Yates, former account director at Vickers & Benson Advertising, is running the new Wells Rich Greene Toronto office as vice-president, management supervisor.
Muriel Whissel has signed on as account executive. Whissel, most recently with Base Brown & Partners, Toronto for three years, moved to the agency side after after seven years as a radio morning show host in Sault Ste. Marie.
– Bruce Tait has been promoted to vice-president, director of account planning at McKim Baker Lovick/BBDO in Vancouver.
Tait has been with the mbl/bbdo Vancouver for three years and was made director of account planning in 1991 as the agency’s first full-time planner. Since then, two more planners have been added.
Account planning positions are also expected to be added to the Toronto office of mbl/bbdo.
– Barry Francis brings more than 20 years of experience in corporate communications and public affairs to his new position of senior vice-president, ACI Argyle Communications of Toronto.
Francis was most recently assistant vice-president, corporate communications for Crown Life Insurance Company.
