Teer posted to V-P marketing spot at Nabob

nabob Coffee of Vancouver has named Diane Teer as its new vice-president of marketing, effective June 4.

Teer has been a Nabob employee for the past five years, initially as a product manager on premium coffee brands, and, most recently, as marketing manager of Nabob’s Lifestream Natural Foods unit.

-Bell Canada has named packaged-goods veteran Bruce Barr as vice-president – communications, Bell Ontario, effective April 19.

Bell Ontario was formed last year as a separate business unit covering the Ontario market.

Prior to accepting his new post, Barr was managing director of 360 Degrees, a Toronto ad agency he co-founded in 1991.

For two years before that, he was a director at Paradigm Consulting.

Between 1976 and 1989, Barr held a variety of executive positions with General Foods, most recently as vice-president and general manager.

Barr began his marketing career with Procter & Gamble.

– Telezone, one of four Canadian companies granted licences in December 1992 to operate a public cordless telephone service, has named Robert Koven as its president.

Koven is a former chairman of the Public Relations Subcommittee for the introduction of public digital cordless phones in Canada.

Agencies

Bill Whitehead has added regional director of Latin America to his responsibilities as chairman and chief executive officer of Backer Spielvogel Bates Canada.

Whitehead has been with bsb for 22 years. He was president and chief executive officer of BSB Canada before assuming the title of chairman this past April.

– Chris Staples has been promoted to creative director of Palmer Jarvis Advertising, Vancouver.

Previously associate creative director, Staples has been with the agency since July 1990.

– Julie O’Shannassy has moved to FCB/Direct Toronto from the agency’s Vancouver office, where she was managing director. O’Shannassy’s new role is group account director on the Royal Bank account.

She has been replaced in Vancouver by Cathi Flanigan, who has signed on as account supervisor of new business development.

Flanigan was previous account executive and production manager at Taylor-Tarpay West Direct.

Ellen Ward, former senior account executive at Comcore Direct, has also joined FCB Direct Toronto as senior account executive on Royal Bank and others.

Also at the Toronto office, Claude Dumoulin has been moved up to associate creative director from art supervisor.

– Charles Bongers, Janet Kestin and Nancy Vonk have been promoted to creative group heads at Ogilvy & Mather, Toronto.

After seven years as assistant to the creative director, Marina Pietracci has been appointed creative manager.

Two new writers have also joined the o&m creative department.

Suzanne Pope comes from SMW Advertising, and Brian Smith rejoins the agency after a two-year hiatus.

Media

There have been two changes at Toronto Life Publishing.

Shelagh Tarleton is the new publisher of Toronto Life magazine, and its former publisher, Marq de Villiers, is editorial director of Where Magazines International.

Tarleton is currently publisher of Toronto Life Fashion, where she will remain until a new publisher is found.

In addition, Tarleton and John Macfarlane, editor of Toronto Life, became directors of Toronto Life Publishing.

The changes were effective June 11.

-Karen Jewett has joined the Herbert A. Watts company as manager of its List Management Division.

Jewett has spent the last four years with a Canadian list management company.
