One year after profit delivered a video outsert for Apple Canada, the computer company and the magazine have teamed up again to give the publication’s readers an interactive diskette demonstrating Apple’s point-and-click computing.
The diskette, included in the March issue of profit, is dos-formatted for use on ibm-compatible computers and is intended to give dos users a taste of Apple’s graphical user interface – the point and click method of giving the computer commands.
Bill Meldrum, director of advertising and promotions at Apple Canada, said in an interview the diskette is included in all 28,000 copies of profit delivered in southern Ontario and in all newsstand sales of the magazine in Canada.
The 70,000 subscription copies of profit delivered elsewhere in the country carry a double-page ad with a 1-800 number readers can call for a free diskette, Meldrum explains.
Meldrum says Apple decided to place the diskette insert in profit because of the quarterly’s focus on entrepreneurs and small- and medium-sized businesses.
‘It’s those kinds of folks Apple has always been successful with,’ says Meldrum.
The diskette turns an ibm-compatible computer into a Macintosh desktop, he says, and although it does not contain an advertisement, it does deliver marketing messages.
Meldrum concedes the diskette insert was a ‘reasonably expensive undertaking,’ but says it will be used in trade shows, by Apple’s authorized dealers and in other vertical market opportunities.
The video outsert Apple and profit collaborated on last year was available on Metro Toronto newsstands only.
