The city of Taejon in Korea will be the host of Expo ’93, which will take place between Aug. 7 and Nov. 7.

Sponsors of the Canadian Pavilion will have the chance to connect with the market in Korea, Canada’s fifth-largest trading partner, as well as a gateway to other Asian countries.

The focus of the Canadian Pavilion is on energy, transportation, telecommunications, the environment and tourism, all focussed around the theme of ‘Partners for a Better World.’

There are four levels of sponsorship available, with upper-level sponsors receiving significant logo exposure on the outside and inside of the pavilion.

All sponsors have the right to use the logo and mascot in advertising and promotional campaigns.

In addition, corporate or brand exposure will be available in the pavilion’s glossy, four-color magazine, which will be given to all visiting dignitaries and guests.

The chance to establish solid business and government contacts will be enhanced by the full co-operation of the Canadian embassy staff, and sponsors will be encouraged to make full use of the pavilion’s vip area for receptions or business meetings.

Be aware!

A new community-based initiative within the different neighborhood districts of Metro Toronto has been developed by Teledirect-Yellow Pages called the ‘Neighborhood Awareness Program.’

Created to help local non-profit community groups with the staging of special events, the program provides free resources including: recreational vehicles, sound systems, two Hot Air Balloons, three Cold Air Balloons, and a fuzzy walking character called ‘Tele.’

Teledirect is providing $200,000 worth of equipment.

Community groups wishing to participate in this program are asked to describe their event and give a minimum of four weeks’ notice to Teledirect.

Irish eyes are smiling

Canada’s multicultural community can chase away those winter blues with a bit of quality Irish green at the 10th Annual Ireland Fund St. Patrick’s Luncheon on March 17 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

The luncheon raises funds for the Ireland Fund of Canada, a non-sectarian charitable organization which promotes peace, culture and charity in Ireland, North and South. It will include legendary comedian Dave Broadfoot and traditional Irish musicians ensuring an afternoon filled with the spirit of Ireland and good cheer.

Also included in this year’s festivities will be a new slate of Honorary/Honorable Irish Persons, who, in return for a $5,000 tax-deductible donation to the fund, will receive ‘magical powers and privileges,’ and be recognized in a video tribute.

Past recipients of this honor have included: George Cohon of McDonald’s Restaurants of Canada and Trevor Eyton of Brascan.

Canadian companies which have signed on to date as sponsors are Pub Draught Guinness, A & P/Dominion, Loblaw Companies and Knob Hill Farms.
