This year’s edition of Who’s Who in Canadian Business is out.
The new edition, the 13th of the series, is larger than before, with more than 5,000 biographical entries, 55% of which are new or significantly revised.
In this year’s edition are biographies and line sketches illustrating the 83 members in the Junior Achievement of Canada’s Canadian Business Hall of Fame.
Press run
Gillian Holmes, general manager of the business directory, says 1,000 of them have been sold so far and she expects to sell out its 1,200 press run by January.
Holmes says the directory costs $179.95 retail, and can only be bought directly from its owner, Toronto-based CB Media.
CB Media is also the publisher of Canadian Business and profit magazine.
As in previous years, Who’s Who in Canadian Business reprints the Canadian Business 500.
Elsewhere at Canadian Business, newly released figures from Leading National Advertisers confirm its August issue had more advertising than any other issue for that month in the magazine’s history.
Ad pages
With 46 pages of ads, the August issue beat the previous record of 44 pages of advertising from August 1980.
According to Deborah Rosser, director of advertising sales for Canadian Business, the ads can be attributed to several factors, but not to any fundamental turnaround in the ad sales market.
Rosser says there is no overall ad sales increase over the seven magazines CB Media tracks.
She attributes some of Canadian Business’s ad growth to new supplements and to additional classified advertising. DC
